DesignOne returned to Yale University for a powerful series of engagements exploring how architecture can reshape societies, systems, and urban futures.

Founder and Chairman Dan Ameresekere delivered two lectures and joined senior faculty and students in closed-door discussions—nearly thirty years after his own studies at Yale.

It was a homecoming.
And a declaration.

DesignOne was there to challenge how the next generation will build.

Architecture as Renewal

At Trumbull College’s Master’s Tea, Dan presented Designing Possibility: Architecture of Second Chances.

Drawing on projects such as Avinya Academy in Sri Lanka and City2100 in Dubai, he framed architecture as a catalyst for dignity, access, and transformation.

Design, he argued, is not neutral.

It shapes lives.

The Future of Cities

The following day at Yale School of Architecture, Dan led a provocative seminar titled Architecture of Escape and Desire.

The discussion tackled emerging urban systems:

  • Tokenised ownership

  • Climate-resilient island developments

  • Sustainable masterplanning

  • Civic participation through technology

Students pushed hard.
The debate was rigorous.
The ideas global.

Dialogue Beyond the Lecture Hall

The visit concluded with a formal dinner at Trumbull College—an intimate forum for reflection on architecture, ethics, systems thinking, and leadership.

Students questioned.
Ideas evolved.
Boundaries shifted.

DesignOne’s Global Mission

Together, the engagements reaffirmed DesignOne’s commitment to architecture beyond form-making—toward design as social infrastructure.

Returning to Yale underscored the firm’s belief that cities must be imagined with conscience, courage, and imagination.

DesignOne at Yale captures the studio’s ongoing mission:

To inspire future leaders.
To exchange knowledge globally.
And to shape cities that matter.
